Brief Personal History of Ambassador Imtiaz Ahmed

Mr. Imtiaz Ahmed, a career diplomat and B-grade Ambassador
(Additional Foreign Secretary), has joined Bangladesh
Embassy in Stockholm as Ambassador to Sweden on 01 September
2009. He has presented his Letter of Credence to His Majesty
King of Sweden on 10 September 2009.
Mr. Ahmed did his Masters with honours in Geology from the
University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. He has also diploma in
International Relations and Diplomacy from the International
Institute for Public Administration in Paris, France. He
also obtained Diploma in French Language from the Audio
Visual Center for Modern Languages in Vichy, France. He also
attended courses on International Law at the Hague Academy
for International Law at the Hague, the Netherlands.
After joining in the foreign service of Bangladesh in 1986,
he underwent a one year rigorous specialized training course
at Foreign Affairs Training Institute of the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs, Dhaka. He also attended foundation training
courses designed for the government officers irrespective of
the cadres. He stood first among 133 officials of the
Bangladesh government in that programme. He also had
training in financial management.
During his 24 years of career, he served in different
capacities in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dhaka and the
Bangladesh Missions abroad as well. In the Ministry, he
looked after the Administration, Multilateral Economic
Affairs, Europe Division, Americas and the Pacific Divisions
and in the Missions, in Washington DC, Kathmandu, Kuala
Lumpur, Rome and Cairo. He served twice in Washington, DC
and in Kathmandu. He was Ambassador of Bangladesh to Nepal
from 25 September 2006 to 24 August 2009.
He attended and represented Bangladesh in many regional and
international seminars on politics, economy, environment,
human rights etc.
He is married to Mrs. Daisy Ahmed, a House wife, who did M.
Com. in Finance from Dhaka University. They have one
daughter Lamiya Mahpara Ahmed who is an IB-2 student at
Kungsholmen’s Gymnasium, Stockholm.
