Procedure for obtaining Machine Readable Passport: Step-1: Making prior appointment: The applicant must make a prior appointment with the Embassy’s Consular Section over phone by calling (+46-87305850) on weekdays between 1000-1230 hrs or by sending email request to admin@bangladeshembassy.se to obtain a date and time to come to the Embassy to submit application and for biometric enrolment. Without prior appointment, no application will be accepted. Personal presence of the applicant is mandatory during submission of application. Depending upon the number of interested applicants, there would be a waiting time before getting an appointment. Step-2: Collecting and filling in MRP application form: The applicant must fill out the prescribed MRP application form. Applicants are encouraged and must submit his/her application online through www.passport.gov.bd. Please choose Sweden in the 'Applying in:' field of the online application form. After submitting online application, one has to take printout of the application form and record the application number which he/she has to submit during appointment time. If submitting online application is not possible, application form can be downloaded from www.bangladoot.se or www.dip.gov.bd; or can be obtained from the Consular Wing of the Embassy. Note: Online application system will prompt an appointment date which is not final. Please contact Embassy as described in step-1 for fixing an appointment. Application form should be filled in following the instructions set on page 4 of the application form. Applicants holding handwritten passports have to submit one application form and applicants who didn’t have any passport before have to submit two sets of application forms both as original. Along with the application, the applicant must attach- - a photo copy of his/her National ID card or 17 digit Birth Registration Certificate, - copies of pages 1 through 7 of applicants existing Bangladesh Passport along with the original passport itself, A passport-size colour photo (55x45 mm) should be appended on each application form. If the applicant is a child under the age of 15, both parents’ colour photos (30x25 mm) are required to be appended on the application form. In certain cases, either of the parent’s photos will be accepted. Appended Photo on the application form needs to be attested after affixing on the form by a notary public or Honorary Consuls of Bangladesh in the Nordic region, or, valid photo ID of the person and, in case of under 15 children, both parents have to be shown during submission of the application. Half of the signature and seal should be on the photo and the other half on the application form. Address and seal of the attester must be provided at page-4 of the form. Step-3: Submission of MRP application form: The applicant shall come to the Embassy in person on the date and time confirmed with the Embassy. - Submit the online application form but before that he/she has to pay fees at the bank and bring the money transfer paper along with them - (If the application wants the passport delivered by post) Submit additional fee of SEK 120 for postage, a self addressed return envelop, and a letter of authorisation written on plane paper mentioning that he/she authorizes the consular staff of the Embassy to receive the passport on his/her behalf to send it by post. Fees (Non-refundable): Regular- SEK 1000 (Expected delivery time 40-45 days), Express- SEK 2000 (Expected delivery time 21-28 days). Step-4: Biometric Enrolment Process during application submission: Applicant’s Finger Prints, Signature in Electronic Pad and Photograph will be taken at the bio-enrolment booth at the Embassy. Then the existing Bangladesh Passport of the applicant will be returned along with a delivery slip. After the Bio-enrolment, all data and scanned application form will be sent electronically to the Department of Immigration & Passport in Dhaka where, after due police verification (in applicable cases), Machine Readable Passport will be issued and printed. It will then be sent to the Embassy for delivery to the applicant. Sep-5: Delivery of passport: Average Processing time at the Department of Passport in Dhaka for urgent and ordinary passports is 15 days and 30 days respectively. Therefore, it may take 21-28 days for express delivery and 40-45 days for regular delivery of MRP. Applicants need to contact the Embassy over telephone or email for confirmation of arrival of passports from Dhaka. Upon confirmation from the Embassy the applicant shall come to the Embassy in person along with his or her old Bangladesh Passport, present the delivery slip and the old passport to the counter and sign the acknowledgement of receipt. New MRP will be handed over along with the old passport (with observation or cancellation seal). Applicant’s presence is required to check all entries made on the passport. In case an applicant is unable to come in person to collect the passport, he can designate a person in writing to collect the passport for him/her. The designated person has to carry a valid photo ID, the original handwritten passport of the applicant (in applicable case), and the delivery slip that he/she received during application submission. Delivery by post: In case the applicant needs to collect the passport by post, he/ she has to do the following: - Submit additional fee of SEK 120 during the application submission and also to submit an authorisation letter stating that he/she is allowing the Embassy staff to receive the passport for him/her to send it by post. - Submit a self addressed envelop with the application, and - Send the handwritten passport to the Embassy by post to get that one cancelled. The cancelled passport will be returned with the MRP by post. Unless the old passport is sent to the Embassy, the new MRP will not be posted to the applicant. |
